Great Offshore Limited, Mumbai organized a business promotion event at Chennai with a view to create awareness about the Offshore Industry and the good practices being followed on their offshore supply vessels. The event was held at Hotel Breeze on 16th July 2010. The business promotion event saw a substantial number of participants, particularly sailing deck and Engine officers, serving at various levels in the shipping industry.

Capt. Sandeep Kalia, Head of Fleet Personnel, GOL addressed the gathering and made a brief presentation to highlight the various types of operations performed by the Offshore Support / Supply Vessels. He also emphasized on the need for highly skilled & trained man power to operate these complex offshore machines. Great Offshore Limited operates a huge fleet of 48 state-of-the-art vessels including 3 drilling rigs, 28 offshore support and supply vessels, 1 multirole subsea support vessel, 12 port and terminal support vessels, 3 construction/accommodation vessels/barges and 1 floating dry dock.

Capt. Kalia unfolded the growth potential of the offshore industry and how the company capitalized on this momentum, to place itself in a high growth trajectory with a well known name in offshore operations at the national and international levels. He asserts that due to companies expanding business activities and fleet strength, the vessels are in constant need of high quality manpower. The employment slots with liberal benefits and supportive personal policies are available for the aspiring seafarers from the offshore and main fleet industry. There are distinct and exceptional benefits that accrue while serving on the offshore vessels including short contracts 2 on 2 off basis. The audience never missed the vital philosophy as espoused by the company’s CEO & Executive Director, that “People are our Key Assets” and focus of Great Offshore Limited is now on the people and the infrastructure.

Mr. Shreeprakash Naik, GM (HR), explained about Great Offshore’s future projects. He added that we have an in-house training department which provides extensive offshore familiarization training to seafarers joining the company for the first time and various value added courses to develop & strength the competence level of our sailing staff.

Mr.Ganesh Vaidyanathan, from the QHSE department spoke about the company’s commitment to Safety & Quality and the company’s endeavours to have Safer Ships and Environment.

Mr.Charles Manohar, sailing Chief Engineer and Capt. Ramaprabhu sailing Master with Great Offshore shared their long-term association with the company and highlighted advantages of sailing on board the Great offshore vessels. Better living conditions on board, high quality of Indian cuisine, Wages & Relief in time, fullest cooperation from the Head office in day to day vessel’s operations, unique & state of the art training facilities and above all the belongingness to the GOL family were some of the motivating factors to stay with the company. Both the gentlemen were felicitated, amongst the august gathering, in recognition of their continued and exemplary services to Great Offshore.

Mr.G.V.Ramanigopal, Managing Director, Chennai School of Ship Management explained the benefits of high quality training provided by GOL to the CSSM cadets during their second year training on-board and profusely thanked the GOL team for their continued support. He stressed that the 9 months training undergone by CSSM cadets in Offshore vessels added professional skill in substantial measure to the cadets and made them market ready for absorption as successful junior officers.

Cadet T.Jagadees, final year trainee of CSSM shared his training experience with GOL and thanked the company for their highly professional approach in grooming the cadets to become potential future engineers.

Earlier in the day, Capt. Kalia visited CSSM and inspected the facilities of the institute and was impressed with the facilities provided for training of the cadets. Cadets presented A Guard of Honour to Capt.Kalia with band in attendance played by CSSM team. Capt. Sandeep Kalia inaugurated the Hydraulics Lab and Refrigeration Lab at CSSM during his visit.
