Capt.Navin Passey, Managing Director, WSM explained about the growing demands for marine engineers existing in the marine industry considering the transport of cargo that largely depends on the sea transport. He appreciated the performance of CSSM Cadets on-board and quoted that it has been possible due to the experience the CSSM cadets possess through the on-board training undergo in Phase-2 (second year). He did quote the lucrative pay offered by the shipping companies for marine engineers in each level, say from 5th engineer to Chief Engineer level (it may be referred with the Salary graph provided in this site). He appreciated the CSSM management for producing skilled marine engineers at young age through quality training. Besides the present 12 cadets, who have been selected by Wallem, 36 Cadets from previous batches of CSSM since 2005 to 2008 have been placed by Wallem and these cadets have been flourishing with very good carreer through Wallem Shipmanagement.
Capt.Navin Passey also clarified the queries regarding recession in the Shipping Industry. He acknowledged that shipping industry is also undergoing recession but not for the Seafarers. The employment of Seafarers has not affected by recession. He reasoned that during last recession, shipping industry failed to train sufficient seafararers and hence even during this recession there is still a shortage of trained seafarers. Regarding Piracy, he acknowledge the threat of piracy but he explained that such incident is confined to one particular geographical location. He said that in an industry which operates nearly 1,00,000 ships, piracy incidents on a few ships will hardly affect the overall safety and welfare of seafaring community.
Capt.G.Ramaswamy, Vice President, WSM appreciated the facilities available at CSSM and quoted that CSSM cadets have on them the best future because of their choice to the Marine Engineering through ATS at CSSM.
