The Alternate Training Scheme (ATS) conducted by CSSM is THE NIFTIEST CHANNEL to become a Marine Engineer. ATS is an exclusive course on MARINE ENGINEERING saving time and effort for direct entry into merchant navy within 3 years duration. The major factor is that, ATS has been implemented by the DGS, Govt. of India, as per the guidelines of IMO through 7.04 model course under STCW’95 (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) regulations. The prime objective of the IMO is to bring uniform standards in skills among trainees to cope with global demands of Merchant Navy. As trainees navigate through the curriculum, they transform into capable junior engineer with industry-ready standards.

The first in importance about ATS is the 9 months duly documented training on board ship during second year as per STCW’ 95 Code Section A-III / I and IMO Model Course 7.04. ATS is the only precise ‘Marine Engineering’ course in India to offer mandatory training in ship as part of the curriculum and CSSM is the only institution conducting ATS under the approval of DGS, Govt. of India.

This practical training in ship enables the trainees to gain thorough wisdom on their future work stations and become the most sought after marine engineer among prospective employers. In the present scenario of economic volatility, most trades are under pressure and find it difficult to sustain. In the midst of stiff competition, ‘Maritime Trade’ propels forward, throwing dignity and opulence to those involved in it.

KEY FACTORS TO BE REMEMBERED :

The entry and Promotion prospects in Merchant Navy are not based on one's degree or diploma. It is purely on passing the Certificate of Competency (COC) examinations conducted by the Director General of Shipping (DGS), Govt. of India. The prescribed essential training on board ship for 9 months is offered in ATS as part of the curriculum, enabling a cadet for employment as per the IMO and STCW Regulations.. Stipend is paid to the cadets during this period.

CSSM has formulated a distant learning programme to be completed during their onboard tenure, where continuity of theoretical learning is not broken. CSSM is the only institution which has placed a faculty marine engineer of CSSM onboard to train the cadets.

Marine Engineers enjoy tax free income besides without any expenses on board ship. After passing MEO class IV part A&B examinations, conducted by DGS, Government. of India, a fourth engineer, to begin with earns a minimum of Ten Lakh rupees per year and a Chier Engineer earns between 30 and 50 Lakh rupees per year. CSSM has been offering ATS for more than a decade and all successfully passed cadets are internationally placed through campus interview. Presently CSSM cadets sail around the world at various ranks. A Cadet can start earning in lakhs and reach the maximum level of Chief Engineer swiftly only through ATS mode.

  Trainer on - board

CSSM cadets, who go on-board ship for 9 months training, are now facilitated with a Trainer along with them, deputed by CSSM. The presence of a Trainer .

  •  helps the Cadets overcome the communication difficulties at ease;
•  clear their doubts across the table while working in sensitive machineries;
•  makes the Cadets feel sailing with their family person;
•  makes the Cadets find the ship, a user-friendly one.

CSSM is the only Institute to provide such a facility of a nine months training on-board under Phase-2 (2 nd year) and that too, with a Trainer sailing along with them.
